Old Fort Country has USGS and Historic Maps

Old Fort Country has been selected by the United States Geologic Survey (USGS) to serve as an official Business Partner. This means that Old Fort Country is an official outlet for all USGS maps and publications, carrying a substantial inventory of products of local interest and having direct access to many more. Old Fort Country is the first official USGS Business Partner in Jeff Davis County history.

We stock a full inventory of Jeff Davis and area USGS topographic maps, including:

1:24,000 topographic maps,

1:100,000 topographic maps,

1:250,000 topographic maps, and

1:250,000 raised relief (3-D) maps of the county.

This represents quite an inventory for, as an example, it takes 51 different 1:24,000 topographic maps to cover Jeff Davis County alone. Given that each of these maps is approximately 20” X 23” in size, one would need a table, floor, or other flat surface of 250 square feet (plus walking room) just to assemble one complete map of our county from these individual “quadrangle” maps. Maps of this scale are of the best available resolution, often featuring individual buildings, trails, steams, windmills, and tanks. For those looking for something a little more manageable, the USGS and Old Fort Country offer 1:000,000 and 1:250,000 maps that cover the county with only three or two maps respectively. Every USGS map purchase made at Old Fort Country comes with a free USGS guide to topographic map symbols as long as supplies last.

In addition to maps featuring Fort Davis and Jeff Davis County and through its Business partnership with the USGS, Old Fort Country also offers official maps of the entire Big Bend Region, Big Bend National Park, Guadalupe Mountains National Park, and a beautifully shaded 1:1,000,000 topographic/bathymetric map of the State of Texas.

Additionally, Old Fort Country offers recently flown color aerial photographs of Jeff Davis County and the Big Bend National Park. And as long as they remain available, Old Fort Country maintains a limited inventory of scarce historical maps of Texas and West Texas in particular. And Old Fort Country is an official distributor of Liberty Marketing county maps featuring Jeff Davis County, which are free of charge.
